Leigh & Josh | Richmond VA Engagement

Sometimes luck just comes your way, and boy was I lucky when Leigh and Josh were referred to me by the very talented Christine of Natural Intuition. I was in Florida when Leigh emailed me (and I don’t usually travel with a computer – I refuse to get a smartphone), so when I got home a few days latter and read their email I instantly knew we were a perfect fit. I was so ecstatic that I immediately responded to them… it was 1am.

Since we live across the country from each other, Leigh and I first me via Skype (unfortunately Josh was out of town at the time), but we instantly connected.  Leigh is so upbeat, relaxed, and just plain fun to be with.  The icing on the cake was knowing they liked to spend time in some of my favorite places like the Boundary Waters Canoe Area and backpacking in beautiful mountain areas.  They even got engaged in the Shenandoah National Park – Josh put the ring on the bear bag, and as he lowered it for Leigh he dropped to one knee… how amazing is that?

Luck would strike again, when I got to meet Leigh and Josh in person. I flew out to the east coast and got to capture them in their beautiful city.  They took me to Belle Island, which is an amazing city park in the middle Richmond with the James River flowing around it.  The island served as a prison for union soldiers during the Civil War and housed a hydroelectric plant until the mid 1960’s.  Luck would also have it that it started to rain just as we met up, which cleared the park of most visitors – so we really had the whole island to ourselves!  It was an extra bonus that they actually wanted some pictures in the rain!  There is a ridiculous amount of photos here…. but when you have two adorable people who are so in love, in such a beautiful location, its really hard to narrow it down!!!  I can’t wait for their wedding labor day weekend on their family farm, a location where they have spent so much time getting to know each other.  If you like the moves they busted out next to the pond, I’m sure you are going to love their wedding dance floor photos!

 Photography the Feels Natural

Ensuring her clients enjoy their wedding day is the most important element for Amanda. Thus Amanda is unobtrusive, capturing the day as it happens. Amanda does not work from a shot list, but instead reacts to events as they unfold.  This form of photography creates a visual story organic in nature.  Amanda has an eye for capturing real moments.  Her style of photography sets her apart from other wedding photographers.

Throughout the day Amanda uses nature to help enhance her beautiful subjects.  Using natural light, shadows, and reflections Amanda ensures the bride and groom stand out.  Amanda is drawn to the magical light occurring at sunrise and sunset where she lets her creativity run free.  While Amanda prefers to work at venues that accompany her free spirit including backyards, farms, ranches, barns, wineries and secluded getaway, her talents allow her to work in most any setting.
